Young Entrepreneur – Blacksmithing & Small Business Experience
What does it take to turn an idea into a real business?
During this 5-week hands-on class, students will learn the fundamentals of entrepreneurship while developing, making, marketing, and learning how to sell their own product!
Classes will meet Thursdays, February 26 through March 26, from 8:45 AM–11:45 AM.
Rather than simply talking about business, students will experience the process of building one. They'll work through many of the same decisions real small-business owners face—from deciding what customers might actually buy to figuring out how to make a product efficiently, price it appropriately, market it, and sell it.
What Students Will Learn
Throughout the five weeks, students will:
- Perform Market Research – Learn how to identify potential customers and determine what they might actually want to buy.
- Choose a Product – Evaluate ideas and select a product with real sales potential.
- Determine Pricing – Consider material costs, labor, competition, profit, and what customers are willing to pay.
- Develop a Marketing Plan – Learn how businesses attract customers and communicate why someone should buy their product.
- Improve the Manufacturing Process – Look for ways to make their product more efficiently, consistently, and profitably.
- Learn the Selling Process – Develop confidence talking about their product, communicating its value, and making the sale.
- Think Like an Entrepreneur – Learn to solve problems, make decisions, adapt when something doesn't work, and continually improve.
Students should expect some preparation between classes—but we'll keep it practical, manageable, and fun!
As a small-business owner myself, this is a class I'm especially passionate about teaching. My goal isn't simply for students to learn a few business terms. I want them to begin seeing that their skills, creativity, and ideas can become something of real value—and perhaps even inspire a future entrepreneur!
Blacksmithing & Equipment
Students will get a chance to learn basic blacksmithing skills. For this class, we will not be making knives.
Age & Class Requirements
The minimum age is 12. Please contact us to discuss possible exceptions.

- A signed liability waiver is required. Waivers will be provided at the beginning of class, and a preliminary copy is available in the FAQ section of our website.
- A minimum of 3 participants is required for this class.

We take the safety of every student extremely seriously. Participants are expected to listen carefully, follow instructor directions, and use tools and equipment responsibly at all times. Intentionally unsafe or seriously disruptive behavior may result in dismissal from the class without a refund.
