HOMESCHOOL HORSESHOE KNIFE-MAKING CLASS
A 3-Week Hands-On Blacksmithing & Leatherworking Experience | Ages 12+
Turn a horseshoe into a knife — and make everything from the blade to the sheath!
In this three-week hands-on class, homeschool students will learn the fundamentals of blacksmithing, knife making, and leatherworking while creating their own horseshoe knife with a paracord-wrapped handle and custom leather sheath.
Students will start at the forge, heating and hammering a horseshoe into the basic shape of a knife. Over the three weeks, they'll take their project through the complete knife-making process and leave with a finished knife and sheath they made themselves.
Students Will Learn To:
- Heat and forge steel using a blacksmith's forge, hammer, and anvil
- Shape a horseshoe into a functional knife
- Grind and refine the blade profile
- Heat treat and finish the blade
- Create a comfortable paracord-wrapped handle
- Make a custom leather sheath fitted to their knife
- Safely use a variety of traditional and modern shop tools
Along the way, students will develop practical skills in problem-solving, patience, attention to detail, tool use, and craftsmanship.
This isn't a demonstration. Students do the work themselves with step-by-step instruction and close supervision.
Who Can Participate?
This class is designed specifically for homeschool students ages 12 and older. No previous blacksmithing or knife-making experience is required.

- Signed liability waiver is required. Waivers will be provided at the beginning of class, and a preliminary copy is available in the FAQ section of our website.
- A minimum of 3 participants is required for this class.
